I dig what I do. Seriously. Now that doesn’t mean that everyday is like nirvana, with colorful butterflies prancing around my head, etc. etc. So I’m thinking about what it really does mean. I recognized it will mean something different to each individual, but here is my list. Here is why I dig what I do:
1. I feel in control. I have the ‘authority’ and ‘capability’ to flex and adjust things in my worklife to make sure they mesh with my personal life.
2. I have interesting and challenging things to work on. And the things I work on have some meaningful importance to me. So I’m motivated. And I’m interested in what I do.
3. I get ‘rewards’ daily. Rewards that mean something to me, more than just the monetary kinds of rewards.
4. I get to be myself at work. I don’t have to put on any pretenses, or pretend to be someone I’m not. I get to express what I think openly. And I work with people who feel free to do the same, of course with respect for all.
5. I have the opportunity to learn new stuff, and I take advantage of every opp I can.
This list is not complete, but the major components of why I love my work. And it isn’t ‘luck’ that got me here, nor keeps me here. Let’s talk later about that.
